Our mission: To introduce the freshness of Mexican Spritz to the world, one bottle at a time.

Enjoy Mexico's freshest liquor, a liquor that refreshes the soul. A handcrafted limoncello made with the finest organic citrus fruits from Mexico. Drink it alone or in a cocktail.

You are buying from a small, independent business run by a woman. Alma's founder fell in love with Mexico, its people, its food, and of course, its lemons. This liqueur celebrates the richness of Mexico through its lemons.

What is the story behind Alma Limoncello?

The founder of Alma Limoncello is a Dutch woman, Marie, who moved to Mexico and fell in love with its people, lifestyle, food and of course: HER LEMONS!

When they lived in Europe, Marie and her husband Wessel loved to drink Limoncello with friends and family after a festive meal. What a surprise to them when they discovered that there is no good Mexican Limoncello in a country that produces the best lemons on the planet.

That's when they decided to make their own Limoncello at home. They spent many weekends as a family peeling lemons by hand, with the help of their two children Hanna and Siebe. After hundreds of tests, they found the perfect recipe and shared the limoncello with their friends. That's how the story of Alma Limoncello began...

Why the name Alma Limoncello?

Marie, founder of Alma Limoncello: “Alma Limoncello is inspired by the soul of my father. He passed away a couple of years ago, but throughout this journey I feel that he is always by my side. His entrepreneurial spirit, his joy of living, his love of drinking with friends and family and his ability to have fun are all present in this brand.”

How is Alma Limoncello produced?

This is a completely artisanal liqueur. We start by selecting the best organic lemons from Mexico. We choose to buy the lemons from small Mexican farmers who grow lemons without using pesticides. The lemons are peeled by hand in a small distillery in Mexico City, run by women. It is essential to do it by hand to ensure that only the best parts of the lemons are used.

We then add the lemon peels to large containers of alcohol, leaving them for at least 3 weeks so that the oils from the peels infuse with the alcohol. The final step is to add the exact amount of sugar syrup to the limoncello to achieve the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity.

We bottle limoncello in bottles made entirely from recycled glass.

We are a small batch producer with a passion for crafting the finest limoncello, one bottle at a time.

What is the difference between Green Soul and Yellow Soul?

Alma Amarilla is the traditional version of the two. For this Limoncello we use an authentic Italian recipe, using the peels of yellow lemons. Alma Amarilla is refreshing and juicy, with a cloudy texture that softens the palate, the overall character is sweet and well rounded. It is the milder version of the two.

Alma Verde is Mexico in a bottle. With the first sip you will recognize the fresh taste of Mexican lemons. Its flavor is very fresh, with a touch of acidity balanced by a rich sweetness. This version of Limoncello is ideal for mixology, as it will liven up any cocktail.

Is Alma Limoncello 100% natural?

Yes, we do not use artificial colors, additives or preservatives. We use organic lemon peel, water, sugar and alcohol, that's all!

How many calories are in Alma Limoncello? Is it a lot?

A bottle of Alma Limoncello contains 17 shots, and there are 103 calories per shot (44 ml - 1.5 oz). Alma Limoncello has up to 30% less sugar than other limoncello brands. For reference, a shot of tequila or gin contains 97 calories.

But remember that it contains quite a bit of sugar (less than 150g per bottle), so drink responsibly.

How do you drink limoncello?

Limoncello is usually served “neat,” without ice, in a shot glass or a tulip-shaped tasting glass. Limoncello is served straight from the freezer, to be consumed chilled. This is how you can really taste the full flavor of limoncello. A great time to drink Limoncello is after dinner, because it helps digestion. Limoncello is the kind of drink you drink slowly to enjoy every sip.

And yes, you can also drink Limoncello on the rocks, although this tends to make the ice stick to the glass and if you wait too long it will start to dilute the perfectly balanced limoncello.

Limoncello is also perfect as a cocktail ingredient. The sky is the limit, but our favorite Limoncello cocktails are Limoncello Spritz, Limoncello Margarita, and Limoncello with Vodka and Grapefruit Juice. You'll be making the freshest cocktails ever!

And don't forget to use limoncello in all kinds of desserts. Serve it over vanilla ice cream or use it to bake a limoncello tart.

What are the best cocktails with Alma Limoncello?

You can get creative! Mix Limoncello with mezcal, tequila or gin. Add citrus juices. Just try it! We've compiled our favorite Limoncello cocktails on our website.

How should Alma Limoncello be stored?

Limoncello does not require refrigeration for long-term storage.

However, as is tradition in Italy, we recommend chilling Alma Limoncello in the freezer for 1 hour before serving.

You can store limoncello in the freezer for years without any problems. Please note that if your freezer is set to -18 degrees Celsius, the limoncello may take on a slushy consistency. This does not affect the taste, just take it out of the freezer a few minutes before serving. Defrosting and refreezing will not affect the taste.

What is the origin of limoncello?

There are several stories about the true origins of limoncello, from local fishermen using it as a morning espresso to monks drinking it between prayers.

The official story of the Italian Liqueur Producers Association is that Massimo Canale registered the production of limoncello in 1988, in Sorrento. He was inspired by Maria Antonia Farace, who used to tend lavish lemon and orange gardens on the island of Capri. She made citrus-infused alcohol for the enjoyment of family, friends and inn guests. After World War II, her nephew opened a bar nearby where he sold this specialty lemon liqueur. The nephew's son, Massimo Conale, decided to register limoncello in 1988 and market the drink internationally.

Since the trademark was registered, the Amalfi region has flourished with orchards and artisan producers of authentic limoncello.

How popular is limoncello around the world?

Limoncello is a very popular liqueur, especially in Italy, France, Spain, Holland, Scandinavia and the United States. Limoncello is not only consumed as an after-dinner digestif, but is also very fashionable as an ingredient in cocktails. At least 20 million bottles are sold worldwide every year. That is four times more than the production of mezcal.

It is no exaggeration to say that almost every festive meal in Italy ends with a chilled glass of Limoncello. And in Europe, the Limoncello Spritz cocktail is featured on almost every menu.

Can you make Limoncello yourself at home?
